Boris Tyomkin painted pieces
Santa Cruz has proved to be an extremely rich experience intellectually and artistically for me, and the nature surrounding Santa Cruz has lead me to pursue landscape painting. Like the Impressionists, I am interested in capturing the quality of the light and allowing the brushwork to show mood rather them depicting the exact representation of the scene. The influence of my Russian schooling is also evident in the use of color as well as certain "psychological" aspect to the painting where I feel I have revealed not just the beauty of nature but myself being affected but this beauty.

All my life I have been intrigued by forms and shapes found in nature. I have worked in many facets of the jewelry and metal working field, and from weathervanes to wedding rings, my work is dementional in nature. I work mostly in a series, trying to explore vairations in technique while insuring that each peace is unique and one of a kind. Time spent carving waxes, and sawing metal, as well as combining copper, brass, and sterling to employ different color and patina finishes on my work articluates my love of nature.

Jonathan Chorn & Lisa Silas sculpters
Our artisits in residence! Before attending the Florace Academy of Art, Lisa completed her undergraduate at the Unversity of Tennessee. Jonathan did his undergraduate studies in South Africa, starting at age 14 at the National School of the Arts in Johnnesburg and Ruth Prouse University, Cape Town. "Our studies at the Florace Academy of Art was spent 6-8 hours a day infront of a live model. We attended echroche classes, anatomy classes, and humanities with open discussions." Lisa after completeing her undergrad worked as an artist for 8 years in the states before becomming disapointed as a working artist and moved to Italy to turn her attentions towards the amazing artists of the Greek, Roman, Renaissance, and Romantic periods. Her love of realist painting and sculpture are what continue to expand her works and inspire her today to focus on her current direction of women in movement. She strives to capture not only the true features of her subjects but also their emotions. Jonathan is a master painter but has set his focus on sculpture. After graduating from Florence he worked in South Africa on his art and taught privately. He comes from a family of clay-workers and has spent his whole life with art- it is essentailly all he knows. He is presently working on large relieves of women and wildlife. His inspriration comes from the beauty that surrounds him here in Davenport. "We both love expressionism as well as realism because the forms we study in nature are abstract in themselves. We have found that this type of training focuses on the craftmanship and training of the eye."
