Waddell Beach/Big Basin State Park: scenic hiking, bike trails and camping. Six miles of a graded, nearly level Canyon Road (which serves as a dirt fire road) wanders along the course of Waddell Creek.

Hiking

Waddell Beach/Big Basin State Park — miles of delightful biking and hiking trails.
A series of Backpack Trail Camps are spaced along a six mile fire road wanders along the course      of Waddell Creek., with three being located within easy hiking distance from the Rancho del Oso park headquarters, located not far (under .5 mile) from Waddell Beach. Serious hikers enjoy this section of trail and beach as the end of the Skyline to the Sea Trail which runs for 30 miles.

Best Surf Spots to watch the action or hang ten
1. Cowell's - great spot for beginners, rentals across the street. Accessed by stairs off of West Cliff drive in Santa Cruz.
2.  Steamer’s Lane – named after the Steam Ships that used to come in, the view is a spectacular bird’s eye perspective as the surfers ride nature’s creations below as you stand on the cliff’s above.
3. Capitola Beach - another great place to get started in downtown Capitola Village.

Wineries

The Roadhouse offers wine tastings on the weekends from 1 to 5 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.   If you are interested in a private wine tasting, please inquire with our manager on-duty. We      feature local vineyards and makers as well as exceptional values found outside of our area.
